The Swedish Cancer Society

75 years of accelerating action on cancer

The Swedish Cancer Society is an independent, non-profit organisation dedicated to beating cancer. By funding the highest quality research, spreading knowledge about cancer, and influencing decision-making in key areas, we work to ensure that fewer people are affected and more people survive.

Collaboration is central to our mission. Since 1951, we have worked closely with researchers, healthcare professionals, policymakers, patient organisations, civil society, and industry partners to strengthen cancer prevention, improve care, and advance research.

As a result of progress in research, cancer survival rates have more than doubled in Sweden - today, seven out of ten people diagnosed with cancer survive. We have come far, but there is still more to be done.

"After 75 years of advancing cancer research, I am very proud that The Swedish Cancer Society is convening Momentum. We know that scientific breakthroughs only matter when they reach patients — and that this requires strong collaboration across research, policy, healthcare and innovation.

Momentum is created as a platform where these worlds come together, across borders, to turn knowledge into faster, fairer and more sustainable cancer care for people across Europe."

— Ulrika Årehed Kågström, Secretary General, The Swedish Cancer Society, and President, UICC
